(ARTHROPODA: Insecta)
1. In Coleoptera, paired organs opening beneath the last abdominal tergite that function to secrete a corrosive, pungent defense fluid, or a substance that lowers surface tension of the water to increase propulsion; also called anal glands.
2. In Hymenoptera, associated with the membrane between abdominal terga 6 and 7 of Formicidae, and when enlarged, produce a defensive secretion; also called anal glands; see post-pygidial gland.
